The Story

Distinctive vocals, booming voice and strong harmonica playing; that‘s what the blues legend Howlin‘ Wolf stands for. Many of his songs such as „Spoonful“, „Smokestack Lightnin‘“ or „Evil“ are blues rock standards today and have been covered countless times, even by musicians outside the blues. Mick Jagger, Tom Waits, John Fogerty and other superstars point to Howlin‘ Wolf as an important source of their own musical development. Rolling Stone lists him 31st among the 100 greatest singers and 54th among the greatest musical artists of all time. He was elected to the Blues Hall of Fame in 1980 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. Along with Muddy Waters, Little Walter and Sonny Boy Williamson II, Howlin‘ Wolf is the most successful singer of Chicago blues. To this day, the Howlin‘ Wolf Memorial Blues Festival is held annually in his memory in West Point, Mississippi.
