The Story

LA's Sudan Archives - Brittney Parks - steps into her third LP-releasing ring with The BPM, a lively, hooked-in dive into the petabyte pulse of club culture. Made between Detroit and Chicago, the record pulls from Detroit techno, Chicago house, Jersey club and global dance scenes, vacillating between family heritage and technofuturism in a corrosive wash of self-determination; she steers clear of outside producers, and collaborates closely with her sister, cousin and longtime friends, shaping what she calls her most open and self-directed work yet. Also conceptually revolving around Gadget Girl, a tech-savvy alter ego born from Parks' exploration of beatmaking on the iPad and electric violin, we join in on themes of mental health, digital identity and self-expression unfold through sharp lyrics and dancefloor-ready beats.
