The Story

Here it is — the long-awaited Volume 5 of the HOT SAUCE compilation LPs, dedicated to the golden era of Trojan-related labels from 1965 to 1975.

Volume 5 delivers another knockout collection of original Rocksteady, Boss Reggae, and early Reggae (“Reggay”) tracks — a killer mix of rare cuts, hidden gems, overlooked treasures, and a few essential hits.

This time around, the spotlight falls on labels like Amalgamated, Bread, Downtown, Duke, Explosion, Grape, Harry J Records, JJ Records, Rio, Splash, Upsetter, and Techniques.

Each track was handpicked for its musical quality first and foremost — with rarity and how well they complement each other also playing a key role.
There’s no filler here — only stone-cold killers from start to finish.

Special care was taken in the sequencing too, ensuring the album builds beautifully from start to finish: Rocksteady vibes kick things off on Side A before shifting into heavier ‘70s sounds on Side B.

The HOT SAUCE series has been a deep dive into the rich, vibrant world of early Jamaican Reggae through Trojan and its family of labels — showcasing the incredible diversity and talent of the era.

Since the legendary Tighten Up and Club Reggae compilations of the early ‘70s, few records have explored this corner of reggae history so thoroughly — especially on vinyl.
And with Volume 5 possibly being the final chapter, we’ve pulled out all the stops to make it a real showstopper.

The cover art tips its hat to the cheeky, self-censored lewd reggae sleeves of the early ‘70s Trojan and Pama era — complete with a collectible yellow sticker carefully placed over Miss Rocksteady’s bottom on the shrink wrap!

With its eye-catching cover and thrilling selection of Reggay scorchers, Volume 5 is sure to be another essential release in the HOT SAUCE series.
